Shufelt, Hubbard to wed Aug. 23

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shufelt, of Gulf Breeze announce the engagement of their daughter, Heather Nicole Shufelt, to John Crad Hubbard, son of Mr. Walter Gary Hubbard and the late Mrs. Gail S. Hubbard of Alpine, Ala.

The wedding will be at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, in Pelham, Ala.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Marie Wertman and the late Mr. Lester Wertman of Lockport, N.Y., and Mrs. Marjorie Shufelt and the late Mr. Leigh Shufelt, formerly of Lockport.

She received a bachelor's degree in Management in 2003 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She later graduated in 2005 from Troy University with a Masters of Human Resource Management degree. She is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, member of the Board of Directors for Hand on Birmingham, volunteer with Children's Charities, Inc., and was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award.

She is employed with State Farm Insurance as a Learning and Development Specialist in Birmingham, Ala. She also is employed as a dance instructor at Calera Dance Academy and Steeple Arts Academy of Dance.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Mrs. Margaret Caldwell of Alpine, Ala., the late Mr. Walter Joe Hubbard of Alpine, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Shadrick of Talladega, Ala.

He received a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from the University of Alabama in 2003 and a Masters of Public Administration from Troy University in 2005. He recently graduated from Faulkner University's Thomas Goode Jones School of Law with his Juris Doctorate. While in law school, the student body elected him to the Student Bar Association each year, and he served as President of the organization during his third year.

In the summer of 2007, he received a Certificate in European Legal Studies through Tulane University Law School by studying European law at the Université Panthéon-Assas Paris II in Paris, France. John has worked with the law firm of Pate & Cochrun, LLP in Birmingham, and with District Attorney Randall Houston in Prattville, Ala.
