Russell "Bretz" Linger was drafted into the Army Air Corps at the age of 21 and applied for flight school. Almost immediately after his acceptance into flight training, he got married, squeezed in a honeymoon in West Palm Beach and then headed off to Maxwell Field outside of Montgomery to begin his training. Several area fire departments participated in a joint-training drill on Navarre Beach last week. Holley-Navarre Fire Department and Navarre Beach Fire Department hosted the drill with Midway Fire, Pensacola Fire Department and Florosa Fire and Rescue. The firefighters first held a 30-minute training meeting followed by a hands-on training drill in a high-rise condo on Navarre Beach, with smoke pouring out of the 10th floor.
