SRC School District considers trimming substitute teachers

      There might be fewer substitute teachers working in Santa Rosa County public schools next year. "Last year, during the 2006- 2007 school year, we spent about $1.2 million on substitute teachers," Superintendent John Rogers told the School District's Budget Task Force.

Cafetorium coming along at GBES

      Construction on the new Gulf Breeze Elementary School (GBES) cafetorium is progressing smoothly. Workers are currently installing the bar joists, which will support the roof, and finishing up the brickwork on the exterior. "The bar joists and the brick should be done by the end of this week," said David Mayall, the site foreman for A.E. New Jr., Inc. contractors.

      It was quite a busy morning at Pensacola Beach Elementary School April 29 as the beach optimists came to call bright and early. It was the morning for the 2008 Pensacola Beach Optimist Club (PBOC) Oratorical Competition, an annual tradition of the beach optimists, chaired this year by Joe Woodall.
