PollJOHN J. TRINGAS
1932 - 2008
The Kingdom of Heaven called home our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, John James Tringas, on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. A resident of Gulf Breeze since 1966, Tringas was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jim and Mary Tringas; and his only brother, C.J. "Tykey" Tringas. Tringas leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend, Phyllis, and his three children - Gary (Gia) Tringas of Gulf Breeze; James (Dawn) Tringas of Boston; and Dr. Andrew (Niki) Tringas of Orlando. He also leaves his six mostloved grandchildren - Ashley, John Andrew, Kalina, Mark, Alexandra and Tiana Tringas. Tringas was the brother-in-law of Penny Tringas of Gulf Breeze; Dr. Allan and Andrea Ford of Gulf Breeze; and Alexandra Kiskyra of Athens, Greece. He also will be missed by his Godson and nephew Jim (Sarah) Tringas of Charlotte, N.C.; niece Pam (Sam) Waite of Cantonment; and his lifelong friend, Tom Psaltis. Subsequent to his graduation from Pensacola High School (1950), Tringas earned a Bachelors Degree (1954) and Masters Degree (1957) from the University of Florida. While in Gainesville, Tringas stood out as a member of the Gators basketball team. He held various management positions at Monsanto during his 35 years with the company, leading hundreds of employees in their transition to retirement. Tringas enjoyed coaching his three sons in youth basketball and baseball in Gulf Breeze, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and at Monsanto. His life bore witness to his strong Orthodox faith, evident to all who came to know John. Baptized at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, John served the Church on the Parish Council as a Board Member; led the Sunday School program as its administrator; sponsored GOYA (Greek Orthodox Youth Association) and co-chaired the Greek Festival for many years. He and his wife also were members of St. Andrew the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Church. Together, they enjoyed traveling across Europe and especially his ancestral homes of Volos and Skopelos, Greece. An avid golfer, Tringas hit the links regularly with his friends and sons whenever he had the chance. Anyone who encountered Tringas was met with an engaging smile and warm reception of a true friend; those who came to know him were better for his deep generosity and loyal nature. A bright light for his family and friends, his departure leaves a void no man can fill but only God can heal. Funeral services were Saturday, May 10, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Fathers Peter Papanikolaou and David Bleam conducted the services. Donations in memory can be sent to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund or St. Andrew the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Church. Waters and Hibbert coordinated the funeral arrangements.
