PollThe Gulf Breeze High track teams will send seven females and six males to Saturday's 2A state meet in Winter Park. The girls team finished in a tie for third (out of 26 schools represented) at last week's Region 1-2A meet in Jacksonville with 53 points. The boys team, led by senior Will Thomas, finished ninth with 35 points. More ... For the second time in three years, Gulf Breeze High will be sending both of its teams to the state tournament. Florida Sportsman Membership meeting Saturday The local chapter of the Florida Sportsman Association will hold its membership meeting Saturday at the Shoal River Shooting Center in Crestview. The meeting, will include rifle and pistol range, as well as five-stand, wobble trap and a sporting clay course by National Sporting Clays Champion Larry Orr. More ... A dropped fly ball in the sixth inning was the difference as Catholic avenged a season opening loss to Gulf Breeze with a 2-1 win in Gulf Breeze April 15. The Crusaders (20-2) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo homer off Dolphin starter Mark Waghalter, who struck out five in 3 2/3 innings after pitching 4 1/3 innings four nights ago at Navarre. More ... The Gulf Breeze 10-under Wave won the inaugural Tiger Point Shootout April 13 at Tiger Point Park, their fourth tournament win (out of five) this season. Wave 9, Pace Hurricanes 6: The Wave needed a three-run sixth inning to edge the Hurricanes in the championship game. More ... Alli Mead, a 2007 GBHS grad and a freshman at the University of Florida, poses with UF quarterback Tim Tebow at the recent First and 15 Flag Football Tournament. The tournament raised $10,000 for orphanages in the Phillipines, a project close to the Tebow family. Mead's team was coached by UF tight end Tate Casey. More ... The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin softball team rolled past PHS in the opening round of last week's District 1-4ATournament, only to get shut out by Milton in the semifinals. The Lady Dolphins ended the season at 10-17, their second straight losing season and their sixth straight season on missing the playoffs. More ...
