South End parks committee ready to work
      The foundation has been laid for work to begin on the District Five Parks and Recreation Master Plan to build new recreation facilities and improve the existing ones.

Move 'em out
     Boy Scouts of Gulf Breeze Troop 417 hiked into the Grand Canyon over spring break, carrying their own food, water and camping gear. Pictured from left to right in the front row are Jacob Harris, "Lucky" Wallace and Tyler Fisher; pictured in the middle row are Bill Fisher, Peter Hahn, Danny Gifford, Austin Wallace, Cody Meadows and Keenan Harris; in the back row are Blake Edwards and Rick Edwards. While many of us spent our spring break following March Madness, seven Boy Scouts from Troop 417 followed a path to adventure backpacking into the Grand Canyon. During a 4-day 35 mile trek, the boys hiked narrow, rocky trails threading across canyon rims and sheer cliffs, all while packing 30 pounds apiece of food, water, and camping gear.

The sky is the limit
     Woodlawn Beach Middle School students listen as Navy flight school students talk about the helicopter components during an official visit to the school grounds. The eighth graders will be going to the Naval Aviation Museum in mid-April for the Flight Adventure Deck Field Trip, a middle school math and science program. In preparation of this, they were visited by the NAS Whiting Field Helicopter Squadron 18 on April 10. Students were able to view the aircraft up close after it flew in and performed a series of mid-air maneuvers that included a reconnaissance run, a 360 degree clearing turn, sliding left and right and pedal turns.
