      Pelicans begin commercial contest The Pensacola Pelicans are calling on their creative fans to take part in their "Where Everyone Plays" TV Commercial Contest for the 2008 season. Groups or individuals are invited to submit a fully edited and produced 15-20 second TV commercial for the opportunity to win a cash prize up to $1,000 and a pair of season tickets.

Dolphin rally falls short 8-5
Navarre takes early 6-0 lead, as GBHS strands 11
      The Navarre Raiders scored six in the first two innings of an 8-5 win at Gulf Breeze Friday. The Raiders got five hits in the first inning off Cody Warford before Thomas Dorsey came in to pitch the next 4 2/3 innings. Dorsey allowed five hits and only one walk and struck out four.

Injury riddled Lady Dolphins go 1-4 in Gulf Shores Tournament
Gulf Breeze loses four tourney games by a total of seven runs
      Under normal circumstances, it'd be a curse for a team to go 10 days in between games. But for the Lady Dolphin softball team, it could turn out to be a blessing. Gulf Breeze played in the 12-team field at the Dolphin Classic, hosted by Gulf Shores High School and held at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

Savage signs with MLS team
      It's official - the Savage family can now boast of having two professional soccer players. Keith Savage signed a developmental contract with Major League Soccer's Chivas USA last weekend. The team, based out of Los Angeles, opens the regular season on March 30.

Girls track team beats Washington
      Freshmen Katie Aldridge, Meredeth Chavers and Jen Pfeifler, along with junior Emily Tryon, won three events Thursday as the Lady Dolphins beat Washington 87-50. Gulf Breeze results were as follows: Discus - 1) Tobie Bass (76-10), 2) Gina Bertelli (70-10).

GBHS tennis teams beat Walton, split with Washington
      The Gulf Breeze tennis teams beat Walton in a district matchup March 4 before splitting a match with Washington Thursday. The girls beat the Lady Cats 6-1, while Washington's boys shut out the Dolphins 7-0.

     Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News The Dolphin soccer Class of 2008 are the only ones in the history of Gulf Breeze High to say they played in a state championship game.

Lifters lose at Milton
Baretta brothers, Villegas, Agricola win weight classes
      Gulf Breeze and Milton both won five weight classes, but the Panthers took nine of 10 second places to beat the Dolphins 54-36 in a weighlifting meet March 5 in Milton. The Gulf Breeze results were as follows: 119 lb. Class - 1) Connor Barretta (135 lbs. Bench press, 115. lb. Clean and jerk - 250 lb. Total), 3) Holden Tibbs (100/105 - 205).

Storm, Wave, U14 Dolphins win GBSA Preseason Classic
      Several Gulf Breeze based team won their age divisions at the fifth annual Gulf Breeze Sports Association's Preseason Classic March 2 at Shoreline Park. The U14 Dolphins won the 13-14 year old boys division, beating the Navarre Heaters 13-6.

Group looking for a few good bird hunters
      The local chapter of the Florida Sportsman Club is looking for hunters for the upcoming season. A limited number of memberships for the 2008 dove hunting season are available at a cost of $265. Hunters under the age of 16 pay only $35 and shooters between ages 16-21 are only $60.

Awesome orators
     Gulf Breeze Middle held its annual Optimist Oratorical contest in their library February 26. Five boys and six girls competed in the school finals. The title for the GBMS contest was: "Why me? Why not me?" The winners were (above, from left): Julianne Lewis (third), Allison Proctor (first) and Justine Grace (second). Below (from left): Nathan Gupta (second), RJ Burns (third) and Joshua Lawson (first). Lawson and Proctor will continue on to the Zone contest at Cokesbury Methodist Church on March 25.
