Lady Dolphins pull away from Escambia
GBHS scores 23 in third quarter of 72-56 win

The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin basketball team took advantage of its size advantage in a big way Thursday, as a 23-7 third quarter helped to put away Escambia 72-56 Thursday in Gulf Breeze.

The Lady Dolphins (5-6) outrebounded the 4-10 Lady Gators 56-20, including a mindboggling 29-5 edge on the offensive end. Gulf Breeze used that desparity to score 24 second chance points, compared to only four for Escambia.

Three Lady Dolphins had as many (five) or more offensive rebounds than the entire Escambia team, led by Jordan Smith. The junior had eight offensive boards and 14 total, a new career-high. The sibling duo of Tobie and Morgan Bass had nine boards each, with the younger Bass (Morgan) grabbing eight offensive boards.

Escambia, who made five three-pointers in the first half, shot 2-for-22 from the field in the second half.

Natalie Alverson led Gulf Breeze with 19 points. She also had eight rebounds. Tobie Bass added 13 points, while Smith had nine.

Morgan Bass had eight points, while Deannette Zuniga and Jamie Beeler had seven each, Sarah Munsch four, Christine Hay three and Anndrea Marsh two.

Zuniga had six rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Munsch had five boards.

Washington 65,

The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 19-2 first quarter lead on their way to an easy win over GBHS Dec. 18.

Alverson had five points, while Zuniga, Tobie Bass and Papajohn had four each and Munsch and Beeler two each. Tobie Bass grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Washington 55, Dolphins 22

The Wildcats used a 22-4 second quarter to pull away from the Dolphins Dec. 18 in Gulf Breeze.

Alec Cann, Bryan Shreve and Matt Catellier all had four points for the Dolphins (6-4), while Erik Mims had three and Bo Peardon, Jeff White and Marcus Smith had two each and Dustin Clements, playing in his first game of the season due to a broken foot, had one point.

David Hibberts didn't score, but grabbed a team-high six rebounds, with an assist, a steal and no turnovers. Shreve added five rebounds.

Washington JV 65,

Dolphins 58

Gulf Breeze (4-6) trailed by 16 after one quarter and pulled within four in the second half before losing to Washington by seven on Dec. 18.

Joey Bodovetz had 16 for Gulf Breeze, while Nick Humphrey had 12.

Lady Dolphin JV 32,

Escambia 27 Emily Chastain had 11 points, while Lauren Alverson had seven and Caroline Waghalter six as the Lady Dolphins edged Escambia Thursday.

Washington JV 50,

GBHS had a chance to win, but couldn't get a shot off in the final three seconds as they lost a tough one Dec. 18 at Washington.

Chastain scored a career-high 19 points, while Alverson added 14 and Madeleine Walden had 10. Escambia ninth grade 21,

Cheyenne Chapman had seven points in a loss to Escambia Thursday. Washington ninth grade 60,

The Wildcats kept the Dolphins (0-5) off the board for an entire quarter on their way to an easy win.

Michael Simhachalam and Jase Brown both had four for Gulf Breeze.
