GBHS chips in for Relay for Life 2007
BY FROM STAFF REPORTS Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

Gulf Breeze High School students, teachers, parents and faculty helped raise over $11,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Volunteers and staff of the ACS Relay For Life recently announced the significant role of the Santa Rosa School District in raising a total of over $138,000 this year. In a presentation to the School Board at the Dec. 13 regular School Board meeting, Santa Rosa ACS Unit Operating Board president Pat Holtman recognized the efforts of the 25 District schools that participated in last year's Relay events.

"Not only do the adults as teachers and parents participate, but the strong involvement of the students is to be commended," Holtman said. "Our children have a heightened awareness of how cancer can affect anyone, young or old. They look forward to the Relay events as much as we all do!"

Since 2002, the Santa Rosa District Schools have raised over $600,000 in the fight against cancer by participating in the fast-growing 18- hour event of Relay For Life. The top three District schools that made a particular impact were Berryhill Elementary School with $16,996.21 under the leadership of principal Terry L. Neustaedter; Sims Middle School with $12,434.22, principal Wanda Knowles and Gulf Breeze High School with $11,693.38, principal Sylvan Ladner, for the 2007 Relay For Life events.

In a special presentation, Superintendent John Rogers was honored for his role in leading the District to making a phenomenal impact for ACS. This is his last year with the School District.
