Lady Dolphin basketball surpasses '06-07 win total
.Bass, Zuniga post double-doubles in win over W. Florida

The Lady Dolphin basketball team won three games last season. This year's team surpassed that total with a 58-50 victory over West Florida Tech on Dec. 11.

Tobie Bass and Deanette Zuniga both had double doubles with 11 points - Bass had 10 rebounds, while Zuniga had 10 steals. Natalie Alverson led GBHS with 16 points, while Jordan Smith added eight points and nine rebounds.

The game itself can be characterized as a free throw shooting contest - the two teams combined to shoot 70 free throws.

Gulf Breeze (4-6, 1-3) was 7- for-18 from the line at the half, which ended with GBHS trailing 28-26. The second half, however, GBHS was 22-of-27 from the line.

Navarre 62, Lady Dolphins 40

Gulf Breeze was outscored by 20 after the first quarter, due to a huge rebounding edge for Navarre Friday.

Navarre (5-4, 4-2) outrebounded GBHS 51-29, holding Gulf Breeze to only two offensive rebounds in the second half.

Morgan Bass, who had four points and six rebounds, scored off an offensive rebound in the closing moments of the game. They were the only second chance points of the night for the Lady Dolphins, compared to 14 second chance points for Navarre.

Zuniga had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Lady Dolphins, while Tobie Bass had nine points and six rebounds.

Alverson added seven points, while Christine Hay had five and Jamie Beeler and Sallie Papajohn had two each.

Demetra Giblin had 16 for Navarre, while Kalie Casey and Lori Fletcher had 14 each and Anisha Wilson added 13.

Lady Dolphin JV 21,West Florida 18 Madeleine Walden had seven points to lead the JV past West Florida.

Navarre JV 30, Lady Dolphins 27

Walden had seven points, while Emily Chastain had six in a loss against Navarre. Ricki Alex led Navarre with 12 points.

West Fla. ninth grade 25, Lady Dolphins 24

Lindsey Hawthorne had 11 points to lead the GBHS freshman in a loss to Navarre.

Navarre ninth grade 19, Lady Dolphins 15

Hawthorne had six points for Gulf Breeze, who were outscored 11-2 in the third quarter. Jameka Anderson had eight for Navarre.

The Lady Dolphins played Washington on Tuesday and host Escambia tonight, with the ninth graders starting the action at 4 p.m. The JV play at 5:30, with the varsity at 7.
