Bryan's buzzer-beating bucket beats Navarre
GBHS won the game with only eight players dressed out due to either injury or disciplinary reasons, including Matt Patrick, who'll miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. The lead switched hands three times in the final 19 seconds. Marcus Smith, who missed a reverse layup two possessions prior, hit two free throws with 19 seconds left to made it a 47-46 lead. After a Dolphin timeout, Navarre's C.J. Sampson drove to the basket for a layup for a 48-47 Raider lead. Instead of calling timeout, GBHS coach David McGreal opted to push the ball upcourt. The ball landed in Smith's hands, who thought of putting up a shot from about 15 feet. Instead, he made a bounce pass to Shreve, who bobbled it before hauling it in and hit a fadeaway at the buzzer, which sounded as the ball was in flight. The Dolphins, who equalled their win total of all of 2006-07 (six), benefitted from a pair of Raider turnovers and a missed front end of a one-and-one in the final two minutes. Gulf Breeze (6-3, 2-3) looked as if they were going to blow the Raiders out in the opening minutes. Matt Catellier, who led the Dolphins with 11 points, hit two three-pointers and fed David Hibberts for a layup for a 16-6 lead five minutes in. But Navarre would score eight of the last nine of the quarter to cut the Dolphin lead to three (17-14). Hibberts, who had nine points and a career-high 15 rebounds, made a steal and converted a three-point play to make it a seven-point Dolphin lead (26-19). The Raiders, behind buckets by Shaun Rannals and Charlie Windfelder, cut the Dolphin lead to two (30-28) at the half. Rannals, who had nine points, hit a three-pointer to give the Raiders their first lead (31- 30) since it was 4-2. The bucket sparked a 8-0 run, which ended with another Rannals hoop making it 39-32. But the Dolphins would answer with a run of their own, scoring the final six with a Zach Andrews bucket making it 39- 38 Navarre after three. Navarre came out in the fourth quarter, holding the ball for nearly three minutes. After the Raiders scored to make it a three-point lead, Gulf Breeze scored four points on one trip downcourt. Jeff White made two free throws after getting a shot blocked and having a Raider player chest bumping him, resulting in a technical foul. Shreve then found Hibberts for a bucket and a onepoint Dolphin lead. The hoop would be the final one for Gulf Breeze until Shreve's game-winner. Shreve had nine points, while White and Smith had eight each and Andrews four. Smith grabbed six rebounds, while Catellier had three assists, four steals and only one turnover.
