GBMS principal honored by state

Gulf Breeze Middle School Principal Jennifer Granse was honored by the state and at the last Santa Rosa County School Board meeting for her efforts in operating a 21st century library media center.

Granse received the Principal Advocate of Excellence of the Year In School Library Media Programs award given annually to two outstanding school principals from the across Florida. The winners were honored with a plaque and an honorarium at the annual Florida Association of Media In education conference (FAME) in Orlando.

In a statement distributed at the school board meeting by her staff members Granse was described as, "A compassionate leader who provides support and quality resources. She has been instrumental in the creation of a school library that is a hi-tech learning laboratory and information center available to the entire school population."

In the Gulf Breeze Middle School media center there are 42 search stations, two full video editing suites, work stations complete with DVD recorders, flat bed scanners and printers, a digital camera and video recorders available for student use.

The statement also describes her as a "champion of reading," implementing as one of her programs a Best Card initiative, that is a partnership between the community library and school library. Students can register for a community library car at school and have it delivered to their classroom.
