The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin basketball team rallied from 12 down before giving up four straight points to Milton en route to a 45-42 loss Friday in Milton.

GBHS (3-5) used a threepoint play from Deannette Zuniga and a three-pointer from Jamie Beeler for an early 9-3 lead. But Milton (5-4) would score nine of the last 11 points of the quarter to take a 12-11 lead.

Milton was 0-for-6 from inside the three-point line in the opening quarter, so they went outside, going 4-for-6 from threepoint range. But Milton wouldn't score another three for the remainder of the game (0-for-9).

Natalie Alverson, who just missed a double-double (nine points, 10 rebounds), scored to make it 18-16 halfway through the second quarter. But Milton ended the quarter with a 9-4 run to take a 25-22 halftime lead.

Gulf Breeze made only one shot in the third quarter, which allowed Milton to go on a 12-3 run to take a 37-25 lead.

A steal and field foal with about six minutes left made it 39-27 Milton. But the trio of Alverson, Zuniga and Beeler would lead a frantic comeback. Alverson scored four points the rest of the way, Zuniga five and Beeler six, including a threepointer with 35 seconds left that gave GBHS a 42-41 lead.

But Gulf Breeze would turn the ball over on each of their final three possessions of the game. One of them came on a questionable fifth foul on Zuniga, who was ruled to have been moving while setting a screen for a teammate.

Zuniga led Gulf Breeze with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting. She also had four assists. Beeler had 10 points and seven rebounds, while Tobie Bass had six points and nine rebounds. Jordan Smith grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds off the bench and contributed two points. GBHS enjoyed a 40-32 rebounding edge.

The fourth quarter was a mirror image of their recent fourth quarter effort against Pace, where they trailed by 12, rallied and eventually lost by one. Friday's game was the team's third single-digit loss this season.
