Fourth quarter dooms Dolphins vs. Milton
"It's heartbreaking," Coach David McGreal said after the loss. "We've made a big deal out of this game all week, so it's hard." The Dolphins started the game with a lot of intensity. Matt Patrick scored the first nine points of the game, equaling Milton's total for the first quarter. Patrick was denied another bucket on an offensive foul. Gulf Breeze led 11-9 after one, but both defenses stood tall early in the second quarter - Gulf Breeze and Milton would combine for only two field goals by the midway point. A Patrick layup, plus one, and Garrett Carr's three point field goal helped the Dolphins increase their lead to five at halftime, 20-15. The second half belonged almost completely to Milton. The Dolphins had one 8-2 run in the third quarter when they appeared to have taken control of the game for good. Marcus Smith started the run when he drove into the paint and went up and under the Milton defenders to lay the ball in the net. On Milton's next possession, Bryan Shreve stole the ball, dribbled the length of the court, and threw down a powerful twohanded jam, sending the entire crowd into an uproar. David Hibberts kept the momentum going by grabbing an offensive rebound on the Dolphins' next possession, and nailing an off-balance bucket. Patrick then capped off the run when he split the defense and dropped a bucket amidst the traffic in the paint. Gulf Breeze led 31-22 after the run, and Milton was forced to call timeout. Milton answered after the timeout with a 10-0 run of their own, and the Dolphins would find themselves trailing by one, 31-32, at the end of the third quarter. The Dolphins failed to make a single field goal in the fourth quarter. Gulf Breeze was 8-for-18 on free throws, compared to Milton's 15 of 27. Patrick led the Dolphins with 15 points. Hibberts added four points and five others contributed three each in the loss. Dolphin JV 50, Milton 33 Joey Bodovetz scored 29 - the most by any GBHS player (male or female) so far this season, to lead the Dolphins. Marco Joseph added 11 points. PHS 67, Dolphins 42 The Dolphins fell behind 17- 9 in the first quarter and could not recover Dec. 4 against PHS.
