Area schools well represented in this week's Regional Spelling Bee

Gulf Breeze schools swill be well represented in the Regional level spelling bee to be held Dec. 15 by Knights of Columbus. Five Gulf Breeze students won top honors at the District level spelling bee held by the Knights on Nov. 10 in Milton.

Students from fifth grade through 10th grade levels from all over Santa Rosa County were eligible to compete in the District spelling bee. A total of 26 students from 14 schools participated. The first place through third place winners in that spelling bee are eligible to compete in the Regional Bee.

In the fifth and sixth grade level, Gulf Breeze Elementary student Callie Craighead won first place, with Woodlawn Middle School student Conner Black taking second place and Oriole Beach's Zachary Arner taking third.

In the seventh and eighth grade level, Sharon Daugherty of Avalon took first place, with second place going to Gulf Breeze Middle school student Alexis Parnell.

The ninth and 10th grade winners were Elena Daugherty in first place and Jake Stanley taking second.

In the Regional Bee, the first place winners will receive a $75 savings bond, and second place will get a $50 savings bond, with third place receiving $15 cash.
