Don't fall for Brand X marketing tactics

The sales representative saw an ad in our competitor's magazine, so she called it and began the dialogue:

"I saw your ad in (the other publication). How would you like to run that ad in the Gulf Breeze News?"

The advertiser said, "I thought I was running my ad in the Gulf Breeze News."

It is beginning to happen more frequently, too, that another publication passes itself off as being the Gulf Breeze newspaper.

Folks, there is only one Gulf Breeze News, although there are a few that are trying to pass themselves off as the same.

Six years ago, our competitor over the bridge closed down their version of the Gulf Breeze News, leaving this community without a newspaper to call its own.

That's when Vici and I (and our families) began publishing Gulf Breeze News, with no financial backers except for those who signed advertising contracts in advance of our first issue.

Now, the big corporation across the bridge is facing declining population and declining household income in their prime distribution area, so they are to re-entering the growing and high income Gulf Breeze newspaper market.

One man told us the new publisher over there vowed to "shut down" the Gulf Breeze News within six months. However, their plan seems to be backfiring as they are laying off personnel and closed their commercial printing operation, possibly to be able to afford those cut-rate specials on advertising

Folks, its all about money. They want your advertising dollars but don't want to give this community the depth of coverage you get in Gulf Breeze News. They don't want to put their ads online for all to see, but we do it at Gulf Breeze News.

We are the little guy who has to work harder to earn (and keep) your business. We are proud of the advertisers who trust us week after week and for the subscribers who faithfully renew every year.

We're not afraid of competition, but we find it hard to deal with identity theft.
