Santa Rosa schools prep for staph Santa Rosa County School District's janitorial service is actively trying to head off any MRSA staph infections before they happen. That was the thrust of the report from Southern Management, the company the district contracts to handle all its janitorial and repair and maintenance services. The centerpiece of this quarter's report presented to the school board last week was about the chemicals being used to hopefully prevent MRSA from getting a hold here, in the schools. Southern Management pointed out that they use a chemical approved by OCEA that has a 60- second kill time. And that chemical is used daily on all areas in the school, especially locker rooms and field houses. They also have a sprayer used in showers, so they do not have to depend on physical wipe downs of the shower walls. The pressure washing sprayer is more efficient, the report stated, and is left on without any wipe down to kill any flu virus or MRSA or any other germ that might be lurking. When Southern Management does hear of any case of any kind of staph infection, every room that the student has been in that day is washed down with the 60-second kill chemicals and closed off overnight while they completely sanitize the area, Southern Management said. |
