Navarre Cancun's to remain open
BY PAM BRANNON Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

Cancun's restaurant in Navarre is open after closing temporarily Dec. 3 and 4. Michaela Thurma says she has been the owner of that restaurant for the past three years and does not plan to close unless someone in the official investigation tells her she has to close, which they have not done.

"When we first opened here it was co-owned between me and my cousin-in-law [Rogelio Galvan Chavez]. He owns the one in Gulf Breeze. But three years ago it became my restaurant. My name is on most of the licenses, but his name is still on one. We didn't get all the paperwork for that one done yet," Thurma said.

She is open for business as usual, right off Hwy. 98 in Navarre, east of Navarre Bridge and behind Whitney Bank. "There is an investigation going on, and they are checking to make sure we are not involved in the other restaurant operations. But until someone tells me we have to close, I won't. And no one has told us that."

She also said she cannot believe her cousin-in-law is involved in the things he was charged with in Gulf Breeze.

"He is the kind if person that if you needed a jacket in the rain, he would be there to give you his -- no hesitation. As far as we are concerned, until it is proven different he is innocent to us. We cannot believe he is the kind of person that would be personally involved in all the things he is being charged with right now. Guess we will have to see what happens. But we are open for business just as usual here," Thurma said.
