'92 Lady Dolphins snap long losing streak

After going a combined 0-49 the previous two seasons and winning only two games the year before that, the 1992-93 Lady Dolphin basketball team won its first game of the season this week, defeating Freeport 36-33 in the Gulf Breeze Optimist Tournament.

Chasidy Fisher led Gulf Breeze (1-4) with 17 points.

The Lady Dolphins lost to Milton 43-20 in the championship game. Anna Barber had 12 points.

1972 - Tommy Pugh scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Dolphins' 87-33 win over Walnut Hill. Steve Elbert added 13 for the Dolphins (2-2), while David Napier and Ed Daniel had 12 each.

1977 - A steal and layup by John English with 15 seconds left in overtime was the difference as the Dolphins edged Catholic 87-85.

Mark Beggs led the way with 20 points, while English added 18, Bart Sibley 16 and Kevin Giddis 12.

1982 - Eric Burgin scored both goal in a 2-0 GBHS boys soccer win over Escambia.

Steve Gouner scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Mark Taylor had nine points and nine rebounds in the Dolphins' 70-59 win over Niceville.

Ken Hardy had 16 points for Gulf Breeze (4-1) in a 52-20 win over Foley.

1987 - Ryan Davenport had a hat trick, while Mike Della Ratta had two goals and Robbie Rushing one as the Dolphins (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 6-2 win over Escambia.Andrew Trickey had 11 saves in the win.

Chad Rich had a hat trick, while Ryan Rud added two and Brian Shane and Tony Allegretti one each in the Dolphins' 10-0 win over PHS.

Jennifer Wasson had 19 points (including six 3-pointers) in the Lady Dolphins 44-34 loss to Foley.

Kriss Embree had 20 points, while Vanessa Rhodes added 10 in GBHS' 50- 40 win over Crestview. Gulf Breeze improved to 3-2 with the win.

Clay Cibula had 16 points for the Dolphins (2-3) in a 46-42 win over Foley, while Tom Baker and Dennis McKelvy had 12 each in a 65-58 win over Pace.

1992 - Sara Moorehouse scored four goals, while Aubrey Johnson and Heather Hutchins had one each as the Lady Dolphins (3-2-1) beat Panama City Bay 6-1.

Thomas Bowman's three-pointer in overtime was the difference as the Dolphins (2-4) beat Central 60-57. Shannon Jeffries had 18 points in the win.

Gulf Breeze lost to Baker 60-51 in the opener of the Optimist Tournament, but bounced back to beat Pace 61-57.

David Satterwhite had 53 points in the two games, while Dave Gallagher had 15 in the Pace win.

Corey Kaplan had seven goals in three games as the Dolphins rebounded from an 0-2 start to post wins over PHS, Milton and Crestview.

T.J. Powers had two goals, while Benji Luke had a goal and an assist. Kevin Flynn, Jacob Baker, Seth English and Tommy Sweeney all had one goal each, while Brandon Patton had an assist. Kevin Rogan recorded two shutouts in goal.

1997 - Edegard Borges scored four goals, while Bob West had three in the Dolphins' 10-0 win over Escambia.

Mike Simpson, Tim Combs and Matt Iburg all had one goal each for the Dolphins (4-0), while Leo Pecheco and Tommy Boozer had one helper each. Andrew Peck had the shutout in goal.

Beto Bressiani and C.D. Harris both scored once in the Dolphins'5-0 win over Washington.

Freshman Gwendolyn Oxenham had a goal, as did Colette Overlade as the Lady Dolphins blanked Washington 2-0. Nikki Matsoukas had the shutout in goal for GBHS, who tied Washington 1-1 later in the week.

Gary Wargo scored 13 points in the Dolphins'48-43 loss to Catholic. Gulf Breeze resident Joe Salter had 11 for the Crusaders.

2002 - Tyler Story recorded his second hat trick in as many games in an 8-0 win over Milton.

Montie Lewing had two goals and an assist, while Brandon Johanson had two goals and Addie Salter one.

Keith Savage had four assists, while Lewing, Jordan Machesky, Ben Keane and Michael Dichristina had one each.

Adam Schrock and Zach Schang both scored twice in the Dolphins' 9-1 win over Woodham, while David Brown had an assist in GBHS' 4-1 win over Pine Forest.

Jessica Van Slyke scored four goals and had an assist, while Lauren Pearcey had two goals and two assists as the Lady Dolphins set a school-record with 15 goals against Milton.

Brandi Adams had two goals and an assist, while Brie Lyons and Alisha Smith had two goals each.

Cecily Welsh had a goal and two assists, while Jenny Miller and Caitlin Eggimann had one goal each. Shannon Wing had three assists, while Annie Adams had two.

Megan Cotti scored a goal in GBHS' 8-0 win over Woodham.

Mallary Campbell scored 13 points to lead the Lady Dolphin basketball team to a 32-18 win over Marianna. Chelsey Adams grabbed 13 rebounds in the win.

Ashley Holloway and freshman Katie Dollinger both scored 10 in GBHS' 49- 13 win over Bay.

Dan Watts scored 16 points for the Dolphins (1-5) in a 56-41 loss at Pace. Michael Perkinson was 5-for-6 from the field for 10 points in a 66-52 loss to Crestview.

The Dolphins, who had lost by almost 40 to the Milton Panthers in their first meeting, were within nine with three and a half minutes to play before losing 62-50.

Matt Forrest had eight points in that game, while Joey Mozur had six points and 12 rebounds.
