Dolphins halfway to 2007 win mark

The Gulf Breeze Dolphin boys basketball team is only two weeks into the season and have already gotten halfway to their win total of a season ago. GBHS had a 3-1 record heading into play this week.
Dolphins 60,
Gulf Shores 48
Gulf Breeze won the battle of Dolphins Saturday in Gulf Shores, jumping out to an 18-6 first quarter lead.
Gulf Breeze shot an even 50 percent from the field in the first half, including 5-for-12 from three-point range. Gulf Shores was 4-for-18 from the field in the first half and trailed GBHS 38-16 at the break.
The visiting Dolphins led by as many as 22 late in the third quarter before the host Dolphins made a game of it, getting to within nine in the final minute and a half. But a 6-0 run, including a steal and twohanded jam by Brian Shreve put the game away.
Shreve had nine points, five rebounds and seven steals, while David Hibberts led the Dolphins with 11 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.
Zach Andrews had eight points (all in the first quarter), while Garrett Carr and Marcus Smith had seven each, Matt Patrick and Jeff White five each, Alec Cann four and Erik Mims three.
The Dolphins had 27 points off the bench. Patrick also had five rebounds in the win. GBHS also held Gulf Shores to only one offensive rebound in the second half.

Joey Bodovetz had 14 points and Nick Humphrey 10 for the Dolphins.
Dolphins 61, Jay 37
Shreve scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half as the Dolphins led 33-14 at the break and coasted to a win Thursday in Jay.
Carr, White, Patrick and Smith all had seven points, while Hibberts and Andrews had five each, Cann four and Matt Catellier two.
Shreve also had six rebounds and three blocked shots, while Hibberts had eight rebounds and three steals. Cann had six rebounds, while White was a perfect 5-for-5 from the foul line.
Dolphin JV 55, Jay JV 33
Bodovetz had 17 points, while Humphrey had 14 (including four 3-pointers) to lead GBHS to a win.
PHS 64, Dolphins 25
The Dolphins led 7-4 at the old Woodham High School in the first quarter on Nov. 30, but the Tigers would go on a 39-7 run the rest of the half to pull away from Gulf Breeze.
Patrick led the Dolphins with seven points, while Shreve, Catellier and Smith had four each, Mims and Bo Peardon two each and Cann and Carr had one each. Cann had three rebounds, while Hibberts had three rebounds and three steals.
PHS JV 64, Dolphin JV 47
Bodovetz had 20 points to lead the Dolphins in a loss to PHS.
The Dolphins hosted Pace Tuesday in their home opener before hosting the Milton Panthers Friday. The ninth graders play at 4:30 p.m., followed by the JV (6) and the varsity (7:30).
