Dolphin wrestlers win pair

The Gulf Breeze Dolphin wrestling team went 3-2 at the Fort Walton Invitational on Nov. 17.

The Dolphins beat South Walton, Pensacola Christian and Bay and lost close matches with Crestview and Rutherford.

Kyle Chavers, wrestling in the 160-pound class, went a perfect 5-0 on the day, while Jesse Parsons (215) went 4-1. Taylor Retherford (189) and Kyle McKissack (152) both went 3-0, while four others - Holden Tibbs (103), George Weisnicht (140), Brandon Buchalter (145) and Erich Reitz (171) all went 3-2.

Gulf Breeze 57,

South Walton 24 The Dolphins won their first seven matches on their way to beating South Walton for the second time in as many weeks.

Weisnicht, Buchalter, McKissack, Chavers, Reitz, Retherford and Parsons started out the matches with wins, with Chavers'coming on an 8-5 decision.

Steven Houser (130) won by fall, while Tibbs and Spencer Sternung (119) won by forfeit.

Rutherford 44, Dolphins 33

The Rams won five of the last six matches for a come from behind win over the Dolphins.

Reitz, Parsons and Tyrone Coveyow (285) all won by fall to start the match, while Retherford won on a 12-8 decision. Rett Ellis (125) also won his match by fall.

Crestview 48, Dolphins 36

The Bulldogs won six of the last eight for a come from behind win over the Dolphins.

Chavers, Retherford and Parsons all won their matches by fall, as did Buchalter and McKissack. Tibbs won on a forfeit.

Dolphins 42,

Pensacola Christian 42

The Dolphins won the match on the sixth tiebreaker - most first time scorers in each match. The Dolphins had nine to PCA's four.

McKissack, Chavers, Reitz and Retherford all won by fall for a 24-0 GBHS lead. PCA then won six straight before Weisnicht and Buchalter had to win the final two matches to force the tiebreak.

Dolphins 46, Bay 33

Chavers was the Dolphins' lone win by fall against the Tornadoes, while Ian Beard (189 pound class), won on an 18-6 decision. Reitz lost on a close 13-11 decision.

Tibbs, Devan Dunlop (112 pound class), Ellis, Matt Dannheisser (135), Weisnicht and Parsons all won by forfeit.
