Our gifts help others enjoy holidays

Thanksgiving is now over and some of us may fit the description of the little boy who saw his dad loosen his belt a couple of notches. He said, "Looks like dad has added two decimal points to his belt."

Thanksgiving is a season associated with food - it began with a great feast.

Many groups and organizations were involved in providing food for the less fortunate during the Thanksgiving season. The season of Christmas continues that interest in sharing in the lives of those who have experienced difficult times.

Our many churches, the Salvation Army, groups such as the Inter-Faith Ministries, Caring and Sharing, service organizations, military groups, and many others, all seek for ways to make this season a little brighter for those who otherwise would have an uneventful day.

Most of us are unable to respond to all the needs that are presented, but most of us can respond to those we feel get the job done.

Just to know that our contribution, whether large or small, will bring smiles and laughter to children as they unwrap their gifts, appreciation from parents as they prepare the food for their Christmas dinner, should be the impetus for that little extra generosity on our part.

And we can enjoy, at a much greater depth, the time with our family and friends knowing that we have helped to make life for others a little brighter.
