Schroeder to swim at UNO

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Schroeder to swim for Privateers Ellyn Schroeder signed a swimming scholarship with the University of New Orleans Thursday. Ellyn Schroeder's love for swimming after not swimming her junior year paid off on Thursday as she inked a scholarship with the University of New Orleans.

"A year ago, we weren't sure this could still be a possible dream. But her determination made this happen," GBHS swim coach Teri Atzhorn said.

Schroeder's prowess in the 100 yard breaststroke is what drew UNO to her - and her to them. Schroeder was seventh at that event at the recent state meet.

"I might do some speed freestyle, but I'll probably just stay with the breaststroke," said Schroeder.

The daughter of Kyle and Donna Schroeder chose UNO over Florida Gulf Coast and Florida International. "Their coach (Randy Horner) made the biggest impression on me," Schroeder said.
