Lady Dolphins lose 3-1 to defending 2A champs
BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News jason@gulfbreezenews.com

St. John's Country Day, the defending 2A state champions, scored a pair of second half goals to pull away for a 3-1 win over the current 4A state runners up Gulf Breeze Friday in Tallahassee.

"They outplayed us to the ball," coach Sharon Kerby said. "I thought we were very predictable in our play."

The match, played at Chiles High School, was scoreless until Country Day scored two minutes into the second half.

Less than a minute later, Jessica Majewski fielded a pass from Carly Loehr and scored, tying the game at 1-1.

But Country Day kept Gulf Breeze (3-2) out of the goal for the rest of the match, taking the lead for good with a goal off a corner kick with 29 minutes left in the match. They added another with eight minutes left.

Ashley Collins played in goal the entire match for Gulf Breeze, who faced St. Augustine Nease on Saturday.

GBHS and their two opponents have combined for 14 state appearances since 1999 with seven state titles.
