'Season of light' starts Saturday

Get out your garland and untangle those Christmas lights as Pensacola Beach gets into the island spirit for the holidays. It's time for businesses and residents to show their indomitable spirit and celebrate the season.

"We decided since this has been a good year we would go full bore with Christmas all through the month of December," Sandy Johnston, executive director of the Pensacola Beach Chamber, said.

Each business owner and resident is asked to go all out to decorate in their own particular style to light up the holiday season. Volunteers who can help elderly or infirm residents decorate are asked to call the Visitor's Information Center at 932-1500 and then lend a hand where needed.

The big decorating push begins Saturday, and lights should be lit by 7 p.m., islandwide.

Keep the decorations up through the holidays and plan to participate or enjoy the Pensacola Beach Boat Parade on Saturday, Dec. 15 followed by the Christmas parade the following day.
