GB grad Hayes earns academic honor
Savage, Adams cap off careers, etch names in UWF record books; UCF's Begley makes All Academic team

St. Andrews Presbyterian College sophomore Jamie Hayes (GBHS c/o '06) was recently selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All District volleyball team, sponsored by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The starter setter for the Lady Knights, Hayes has a 4.0 grade point average. The biology/chemistry major started all 37 matches for SAPC, averaging 9.8 assists per game. She also averaged three digs a game.

She is a Dean's List student and conference Presidential Honor Roll award recipient as a member of the St. Andrews Honors Program.

Hayes isn't the only area resident excelling off the field, as well as on.

Kate Begley recently made the Conference USA's women's soccer All Academic team.

Begley, whose family moved to Gulf Breeze after she graduated from high school in Pennsylvania, holds a 3.88 grade point average. The education major has received the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in 2005 and 2006 and earned a spot on the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team in 2003 and 2004.

A defensive midfielder, Begley started every match this year for UCF. She has a goal and two assists this year. She's also one of the team leaders in minutes played.

Hayes
A pair of former Dolphins had their UWF season end earlier than anticipated, but still left indelible marks on their respective programs.

Keith Savage (c/o '03) set up UWF's only goal in their 2-1 loss to Montevallo in NCAA Division II South Regional semifinal Friday. The assist was the 25th of his career, tying him with Pat Cannon for first place on the school's all-time list.

The helper also gave him 119 career points, tying him for second on the school's all-time list.

Fellow UWF senior Brandi Adams (c/o '03) finished her 2007 season with 14 assists, tying her for fourth on the school's all-time list. Her 26 assists is second on the school's all-time list.

Fellow Lady Argo Kaley Morris (c/o '06) finished with one goal and three assists.

Tyler Lake (c/o '04) played his final football game at Rhodes College Saturday, a 15-13 win over Suwanee. Lake had 43 yards rushing on 10 carries and three receptions for 31 yards.

He finished his career with 3,013 all purpose yards.
