GBHS sweeps cross country titles
Feat the first in school history; 12 named All District

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze The GBHS boys and girls cross country teams swept the District 1-2A titles Saturday, the first time in school history.
The Gulf Breeze boys and girls cross country teams won the District 1-2A titles Saturday in Niceville, the first time in school history it's ever been done.

"We totally dominated," said girls coach Tom Aldridge.

The boys teams placed all seven of its runners in the top 15, while the girls had five of their seven there, which with it garners All District honors.

The boys placed all seven of its runners in the top 12, finishing with 32 points. Catholic was second (75), followed by Tallahassee Godby (91), Marianna (122), Arnold (156), Tallahassee Florida High (183), West Florida (206) and PHS (208).

Dolphin runners finished within 44 seconds of each other, led by Will Thomas'time of 17:23, which was third out of 70 runners.

Geoffrey Brill was fourth (17:25), follwed by Dylan Lee (seventh - 17:40), Aber Wilson (10th - 17:59), Chad Robin (11th - 18:04) and Tommy Gibble 12th - 18:07).

The district title was the second straight for the boys, while the Lady Dolphins, who were runner up to Catholic last year, won it this year with a score of 36. Catholic was second (60), followed by Arnold

148) and Florida High (179).

Emily Tryon, who was third at last year's district meet, was second this year (out of 60 runners) with a time of 19:50. Jen Pfeifler was fifth (20:28), followed by Rebecca Smith (10th - 22:16), Katie Aldridge (12th - 22:21), Lauren Musick (14th - 23:07), Briana Santiago (16th - 23:07) and Meghan Kirby (26th - 24:03).

Chiles High School will host Saturday's Region 1-2A meet at the Miccosukee Greenway Canopy Park. The girls meet starts at 11 a.m., with the boys following at 11:30 a.m.

The state meet is Nov. 17 at the Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City.
