'72 Dolphins follow first win with 7-7 tie to Baker
Kenny Johnson scored from a yard out, completing a 14-play drive that lasted more than eight minutes. The Gators answered with a second quarter score. 1977 - The Dolphins were held to just one first down in the second half of a 19-14 loss to Washington. Jimmy Watts caught a sevenyard touchdown pass from Donnie Brown, whose two-point pass to Tim Koontz made it 8-7. Brown later scored from one yard out after Richard Hardy's interception and return put the Dolphins at the Wildcats' twoyard line. Jimmy Rich also had a pick in the loss. 1982 - The Niceville Eagles forced eight Dolphin turnovers in a 39-0 win over Gulf Breeze. The Dolphins were held to one yard rushing in the game. 1987 - Future Florida Gator and Green Bay Packer Dexter McNabb broke the 1,000 yard mark for the third consecutive year as Walton shut out the Dolphins 30-0. Jennifer Delavan was 10th overall (13:42), while Celene White (13:50) was 13th at the District 1-3A cross country meet. The girls were third with 99 points behind Tallahassee Leon (38) and Niceville (76), while the boys, led by Brian Shane (18th - 17:32) and Tim Clark (19th - 17:33) were sixth. 1992 - Cody Cagle scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns as the Dolphins lost to Bay 35- 21. Bobby Clayton scored from a yard out in the first quarter. Jennifer Hanley was second overall at the district cross country meet, leading the Lady Dolphins to a second place finish (71 points). Pace won the meet (55). The Lady Dolphin volleyball team defeated Crestview 15-13, 15-11 in the first round of the district tournament before losing in the semifinals to Pace 11-15, 15-12, 15-13. 1997 - A 37-yard field goal attempt in the closing seconds fell short as the Dolphins held off Washington 27-26. Jason McKie scored three touchdowns, including a 10-yard with 6:38 left that put the Dolphins ahead for good. Tyler Haney added a 59-yard touchdown run for a 21-7 Dolphin lead. 2002 - The Dolphins lost its first ever game to the Navarre Raiders 21-14 in Navarre. Darren Jones fell on a Dolphin fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, while Buddy Burks threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Charles Edmondson for the Dolphins' other score. Daniel Kostic had 105 yards rushing on 13 carries. Cecily Welsh set a personal best (21:15), as did Brandy Bryant (24:28) and Justine Ponyicky (24:40), for the girls cross country team at the EscaRosa Championships. The girls golf team finished third at the regional tournament, which they hosted. Chelsea Reynolds led the Lady Dolphins with a 91, the only sub-100 score for GBHS. Kyle Cormier and Jeff Holway both won five events as the Dolphin swim team beat Washington, Milton and PHS in a four-team meet at The Club. Carly Saul won four events and Candace Knowles three for the girls team, which also won. |
