Pelicans Training Academy Winter Program starts Nov. 12

As baseball season approaches, the Pelicans Training Academy is putting on its High School Winter Training Program in November and December.

The program is designed in the format of a Professional spring training with the purpose of helping prospective players get a jump start on their pre-season workouts and to better prepare them for tryouts in January.

The training starts on Nov. 12 and continues on Nov. 20, 27, Dec. 4 and Dec. 11 at the Pelicans Training Academy at 4920 North Davis Highway in Pensacola.

Pitchers and catchers will train from 6-7:30 p.m. with hitters from 7:30-9 p.m.

Cost is $250 for the five week program and is open to all area high school baseball players. Saturday workouts are tenatively scheduled starting Nov. 10.

Instructors will be current/former professional players or coaches and local college coaches.

A youth wrestling camp - Fun and Fundamentals with Olympic Coach Rob Hermann - will begin Nov. 5 at Gulf Breeze Middle School.

The camp, which costs $40 per month, will be on Mondays from 6:30-8 p.m. Discounts are available for more than one participants. Friendly meets will be set up for cooperating youth programs in the area and nearby towns. A Christmas Clinic will also be set up at a date to be determined.

Optimist Golf Tournament rescheduled for Nov. 9

The Optimist Club of Gulf Breeze eighth Annual Golf Tournament, which was scheduled for last Friday, has been rescheduled for Nov. 9. at Osceola Golf Course in Pensacola.

Lunch will be served from 10:30-11:40 a.m. Shotgun start is at noon. Additional golfers and sponsors are welcome.

FSU lacrosse clinic Dec. 8 at Rec Center

The Rec Center will sponsor a lacrosse clinic Dec. 8 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for boys ages 9- 14.

Cost is $55 per player and includes a t-shirt. Players must have helmets, stick, gloves and cleats. Walk ons are also welcome. Coaches and players from Florida State will work with campers on basic skills, as well as the fundamental knowledge of the game.
