Dolphin football playoff lives on line Friday
District champs, runners up, shootout and elimination all still valid options
BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News jason@gulfbreezenews.com

The Gulf Breeze Dolphins, despite their 2-6 record are still in the thick of the District 1-3A playoff hunt. The Dolphins play at PHS Friday, while West Florida hosts Arnold - with tons of playoff possibilities.

The Dolphins, with a win over the Tigers, plus an Arnold win over the Jaguars would force a three-team shootout with GBHS, PHS and Arnold for the two playoff spots. But a Dolphin win and a West Florida win over Arnold would give Gulf Breeze its first district title in 18 years.

Even with a loss, the Dolphins are still alive, provided that West Florida still beats Arnold. With a PHS win and an Arnold win, the Dolphins would be eliminated.

"It's right there," Nemith said of his team playoff hopes.

"They're typical PHS - they're big up front, got good team speed and they're solid in the kicking game."

The Dolphins will be playing the game shorthanded, as at least one player is suspended for violating team policy. A second player will miss the game because of a missed practice, a skipped class and a missed detention, while two others will sit out a quarter for their actions on the sidelines against Arnold.

"The players need to self monitor each other when they're off campus," Nemith said.
