ALFRED JOHN "AL" WINFIELD
He was born Oct. 23, 1945, in Alameda.He was deputy chief of police for Vacaville, Calif. from 1988-2001.After retiring, he worked for Basalite in Dixon. Before Vacaville, he worked for Menlo Park P.D.; California Highway Patrol; Los Angeles P.D.; Huntington Beach P.D.; chief of police for Gulf Breeze, Florida P.D.; Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for the Bureau of Investigation; Florida Department of Law Enforcement; and director of the Police Academy at Pensacola Community College. Mr. Winfield earned a bachelor's degree in child psychology from Southern Utah State College; a master's degree in management from University of Redlands; and a doctorate degree in education administration. Al was an outstanding athlete, an exceptional police officer, a dedicated family man and a person who placed a high value on honesty, integrity and public service. He loved people and he loved the streets and he loved being out there with the guys. He enjoyed playing basketball, tae kwon do and loved being with his family. Al is survived by his wife of seven years, Lara Adrienne Winfield; daughters, Mia Zimmer-Winfield, Ericka Mae Grossbach and Nicolete Ireland; sons, Lance Jordan Winfield, Alfred John Winfield, George Robert Ireland and Brett Rodrick Winfield; parents, Theodore Paul Winfield and Elizabeth Mae Winfield; brothers, Theodore P. Winfield Jr. and Peter Andrew Winfield; grandparents, Alfred J. Hopper, Erma Hopper and Andrew Winfield; four grandchildren, Ciera and Austin Shepherd and Samantha and Sydney Winfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Winfield Children Bereavement Fund- Solano First Credit Union in Vacaville. Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel, 448- 6546. |
