Christian Women's Job Corps Thanksgiving Festival is Nov. 17

The Christian Women's Job Corps (CWJC) Thanksgiving Festival will be held on Friday Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brownsville Baptist Church located at the intersection of Cervantes and U streets in Pensacola. There will be a large yard sale, vendors, food and bake sale, games, prizes, jumpers, radio WRNE 980 broadcasts, a fire truck, race cars, dancers, musicians, karate self-defense lessons, free fingerprinting kits from Sheriff Ron McNesby, free library books from the Westside Library and a silent auction that includes a day of beauty from Skin Care Center in Gulf Breeze and more. Admission is free. Vendors are encouraged to apply. Quality donations to the yard sale and silent auction are still needed. Call Jody Spear at 850-934-0285 for more information. The Christian Women's Job Corps is a non- profit international organization that helps women in need finish their high school education by getting their GED.

Locally, Christian Women's Job Corps serves Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. The classes meet in available rooms at the Brownsville Baptist Church. Classes are held Monday through Fri from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The lessons also include parenting and life skills, dressing for a successful job interview, and how to acquire spiritual strength. The objective is help the participants gain selfrespect, self sufficiency, and to become better equipped for life. After graduation participants get help formulating a sixmonth, one year, and two year plans to successfully carry out their goals.

During the GED process the CWJC ministry provides transportation to and from headquarters for the women and children if needed.

CWJC hopes to bring families from all communities to celebrate the CWJC Thanksgiving Festival on Nov. 17. This coming together will express a mutual desire to help women gain a hand up and celebrate a new improved Brownsville.

Sheila Green is the Santa Rosa Woman's Club

The next Santa Rosa Women's Club meeting will be held Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at St Ann'' Catholic Church, located at 100 Daniel Drive in Gulf Breeze. The title of the event is "Breezing through the Holidays." The program include will a luncheon catered by Norma, a fashion show presented by Brenda Caraway of Fashion Connection, a holiday food demonstration by Norma and a decorating with natural/native items by Emily Peterson from Garden Gate.

The cost to attend is $25 per person and the tickets are selling fast. Tickets may still be available from club members. Gulf Breeze Historical Society

The Gulf Breeze Historical Society met Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Gulf Breeze Library. The program was presented by Dr. Bert Jordan and George Bokas. Jordan was the first physician to set up a practice in Gulf Breeze and Bokas was the first pharmacist in Gulf Breeze.

"Their presentation made the large audience reminisce about the way things were in the early years in Gulf Breeze," Kathy Kuehl said.

Gulf Coast Friends

On Oct. 16 Peggy Hodges, Chairperson Gulf Coast Friends Arts and Crafts Fair XVII, hosted a very productive meeting at her house with the artists and crafters who are participating in the GCF's annual Arts and Crafts Fair.

On Thursday, Nov. 8, Gulf Coast Friends will hold the 17th annual charity crafts fair at New World Landing beginning at 9 a.m. There will be bakery goodies, twice-loved books, a designer showcase, raffles, door prizes, 50/50 and much, much more. Tickets cost $25. Some of the artists/crafters are: Fran Sansing, Nell Servold, Joanie Bolton, Sharon Combee, Joyce Spenser, Kay Broughton, Jan and Mike Smith, Pam Johnson, Margaret O'Dell, Rachel Commer, Marie Miclo, Sue Edler, Diane Hall, Marilyn Lazear, Helene Star, Sheila Garland, Barbara Briggs, Erka Ertl and Pam Wynn.

Emerald Coast Woman's Club

Emerald Coast Woman's Club monthly meeting is today at 11:30 a.m. at Soundside Club, Hurlburt Field. The cost is $12. Pam Smith will give a presentation titled "Florida Then and Now."

The Emerald Coast Woman's Club (ECWC) planned the Christmas Gala for Dec. 7 at the Soundside Club, Hurlburt Field with a very special program.

Glenn Frazier, a veteran of World War II, prisoner of war in the Philippines and Japan and a survivor of the Bataan Death March, will be the guest at the ECWC Christmas Gala. Frazier appears in the recent PBS documentary, "The War," and is the father of ECWC president, Janis Fort.

Frazier will have a question and answer session. ECWC will hold a raffle for an autographed copy of Frazier's book entitled "Hell's Guest." A biography of Glenn can be found at www.pbs.org/thewar/detail51 71.htm

Ticket sales are not confined to club members only and interested participants are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. Only 130 tickets will be sold. Tickets are $25 per person. A cash bar cocktail hour will be at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m.
