'72 Dolphins get first win

The 1972 Dolphins got their first win of the season this week, defeating Pensacola School of Liberal Arts 25-0.

Lonnie Murphy scored two touchdowns on runs of two and 70 yards in the second and fourth quarters, respectively. Tony Barberi caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Kenny Johnson, while Kenneth Hardy scored from two yards out in the third quarter.

Barberi made a touchdownsaving tackle late in the game to preserve the shutout, while Blaine Butler blocked a punt that set up the Dolphins' first score.

1977 - Tim Konntz's fiveyard touchdown run with 45 seconds left gave the Dolphins a 26-21 win over Crestview.

Richard Hardy's blocked punt set up the Dolphins' first score, a one yard run by Donnie Brown. Rodney Eddins caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Brown, while Jody Brown added a 25-yard field goal.

David Davidson caught a two-point conversion pass in the win.

The Bulldogs drove to the Dolphin 20 before turning the ball over on downs with one second left.

1982 - The Dolphins defeated Rutherford 14-12. No further information was available.

1987 - The Bay Tornadoes picked up their first win of the season over the Dolphins, 14- 10. Gulf Breeze (3-4) got a one-yard touchdown run by Warren Hall in the loss.

1992 - Bobby Clayton threw a 71-yard touchdown pass to Shannon Jeffries on the third play of the game as the Dolphins rolled 35-6 over St. Stanislaus out of Bay St. Louis, Miss.

Clayton, Drew O'Daniel and Justin Lombardo scored on runs of five, three and 21 yards, respectively, while Jeffrey Bishop had a two-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Mike Mitchell was 5-for-5 on extra points.

1997 - Jason McKie ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns, while David Miller had 148 yards rushing on 12 carries as the Dolphins scored 29 fourth quarter points to beat Pine Forest 49-43.

Carlos Perez returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown, while Jack Parris returned another fumble 35 yards for a touchdown.

Ian Reeder was a perfect 7- for-7 on extra points for the Dolphins (6-2).

The Lady Dolphin volleyball team defeated Milton 15-4, 15- 4 before losing to Washington 15-8, 15-8 in the semifinals of the district tournament.

The Lady Dolphin cross country team won a three-team meet at Whiting Field.

Kristen Kelly was second for Gulf Breeze (21:08), followed by Kirsten Lynch (third - 21:23), Lara Perez (fourth - 21:34) and Beth Gorman (seventh - 22:17).

The boys team, led by Tim Webb (fifth), Noberto Nieves (eighth) and Geoff Freeman (ninth), were second (46) behind Pensacola Christian (32).

Citing injuries and burnout, David Satterwhite opts to sit out his senior season at DePaul University. Satterwhite averaged two points and two rebounds the previous season.

Tony Faggioni and his 44 yards per punt average ranked him the nation's best for Division II University of North Alabama.

2002 - Daniel Kostic scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns in a 27-14 loss to Bay. Chris Proctor and Tyler Lake had interceptions in the loss.

The Lady Dolphin volleyball team, led by Kalyn Hundley, Chelsey Adams and Kelsey Hagan, defeated Arnold 15-4, 15- 13 in the semifinals, then Navarre 15-6, 15-10 in the final of the district tournament. GBHS was 18-6 on the season after the wins.

The girls cross country team won and the boys were second in the Early Morning Invitational at Woodham.

Jenny Miller was second overall (21:20), followed by Emily Custred (fourth - 22:15) and Jackie Beavers (fifth - 22:29).

Jeff Crane was fifth (18:08), while Hugh O'Connor was sixth (18:13) for the Dolphins (21), who finished second behind Navarre (21).

The girls golf team finished second at districts, losing to Navarre by only six shots. Chelsea Reynolds led GBHS with a 43, followed by Lauren Dotson (55).
