Early in the morning of Oct. 10, a 1999 Dodge Ram swerved over the side of the Bob Sikes Bridge between Pensacola Beach and Gulf Breeze, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The truck was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed.when swerved hard to the left, traveling into the median and striking a guard rail then continuing along the guard rail until it struck the south end of the Bob Sikes Bridge, where it overturned, traveling about 60 feet along the two interbridge rails before falling between them into the water below, coming to rest on the driver's side in five feet of water. The vehicle sustained $7,000 in damage. Nearby anglers helped Crockett out of the vehicle, and he was picked up by a Black Volvo.
