BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News jason@gulfbreezenews.com
varsity and ninth grade football teams got strong efforts from their featured backs, but it wouldn't be enough as both teams fell to Milton Thursday at Dolphin Stadium.

Milton JV 27, Dolphins 18

A 12-play drive that lasted more than five minutes put the Panthers up 14-6 and kept them ahead to stay.

The Panthers took a 7-0 lead three plays into the game before the Dolphins got within a point three plays later.

Mario Villegas, who had 154 yards rushing on 15 carries, scored on a 34-yard run with six minutes left in the opening quarter. Danny Gibble's extra point was blocked, leaving the score 7-6.

The two teams traded punts before the Panthers tacked on another score.

Villegas had 50 of the Dolphins' 53 yards on their next scoring drive, including a 15- yard touchdown. The PAT was no good, leaving the score 20-12.

Milton made it 27-12 after a 10-play, five minute long drive before Villegas scored on a twoyard run with two minutes left in the game.

The rest of the Dolphins team combined for 23 yards of total offense.

Casey Moore, Colton Greer, Bobby Clay and Ian Beard led the Dolphin defense.

Milton ninth grade 36,

Dolphins 8 Eric Adams, who had 127 yards rushing on 14 carries, scored a 19-yard touchdown with 41.9 seconds left to spoil the Panthers' quest for a shutout.

The Panthers scored touchdowns on each of their first three possessions, taking a 20-0 lead with 6.5 seconds left in the first quarter.

John Bayer's 32-yard run put the Dolphins in the Milton 'red zone,' but Brandon Sorenson's 27- yard field goal try was blocked.

Harrison Stagner recovered a Milton fumble that was forced by teammate Trey Nichols, but the Dolphins would turn it back over on downs four plays later.

Milton's next series ended with an interception by Justin Ratte - his first game in more than a month due to injury.

The Panthers tacked on another score late in the third quarter.

Bayer, Stephen Crowhurst, Blake Cannon and Nick Kocon led the Dolphin defense.
