Lady Raiders beat GBHS in five games - again
Navarre top seed at next week's district tourney, GBHS second seed

If it was a contest between pro athletes, it'd be worthy of being an ESPN 'Instant Classic.'

For the second time this season, rivals Gulf Breeze and Navarre played a five-game match and for the second time this season, the Lady Raiders came out on top 25-17, 18-25, 26-24, 12-25, 15-13 Oct. 9 in Navarre.

Gulf Breeze, who will be the second seed in next week's district tournament in Gulf Breeze, led 24-20 in game three before blowing four game points and eventually the game.

Navarre led 6-1 early in game one after Sarah Augustin scored five straight serves. GBHS got to within one after Tobie Bass scored five straight points.

Deannette Zuniga, who made a career-high 29 digs, recorded a kill to get Gulf Breeze within two (19-17) before Navarre scored the final six to take game one.

Celia Eddy, who had 19 kills, nine blocks and four digs, recorded a kill to force a sideout. Lacie Brothers scored four straight for a 5-0 lead.

Navarre would take a 6-5 lead before Gulf Breeze scored 12 of the next 14 to pull away. Tristan Powers and Lauren Alverson scored four straight points on serve in the run.

The Lady Dolphins took a 4- 0 lead in game three with three Brothers serves. GBHS added to its lead (11-5) on three Alverson serves.

An ace from Jasmine Crowell made it 13-6, but numerous serving and hitting errors allowed Navarre to tie the game at 16.

Four serves from Powers made it 21-16, followed by a block by Bass made it 24-20 before four straight Navarre kills tied it at 24. Ahitting error and a passing error gave Navarre the game three win.

GBHS jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game four, while five Powers points made it 9-2. Navarre got to within six several times, but got no closer.

Navarre jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the decisive fifth game before one of Brittany Wheeler's nine kills and four Powers serves made it 6-5.

Gulf Breeze led 8-6, 10-7 and 11-9 before serving, hitting and passing errors late proved costly.

Brothers had 10 kills, 10 digs and seven aces, while Powers had 32 assists and 10 digs. Alison Milam had seven digs.

PHS 22-18-21

Brothers had a career-high 16 kills, while Eddy had 18 kills, five digs and six blocks as Gulf Breeze swept PHS Thursday in Pensacola.

Crowell had four kills and two blocks and went 10-for-10 on serving. Ali Venezia had 11 digs and three kills, while Zuniga had 21 digs. Powers had 32 assists and nine digs in the win.

Escambia 10-5-7 Eddy and Wheeler both had nine kills, while Powers had nine aces and 21 assists to lead GBHS over Escambia Oct. 8.

Crowell had five kills, while Alverson was 24-for-26 on serves. Zuniga had 10 digs in the win.

Navarre 23-25-11

Kelly Hayes had eight points and 10 assists, while Cheyenne Chapman had seven kills and Kylie Conner seven points in GBHS' junior varsity win over Navarre.

Lady Dolphin ninth grade

25-25, Navarre 12-19

The GBHS ninth graders stayed unbeaten against fellow freshman competition behind nine points from Sallie Papajohn and seven from both Katie Stanhagen and Cassie Lane.
