Sophomore Ashleigh Ryals, playing in the number one spot for the first time this season, proved worthy of the title, winning the individual title and leading the Lady Dolphins to their fifth consecutive District 1- A championship Monday at Perdido Bay Golf Club.

Ryals shot a 76 - including an even par 36 on the back nine - to lead Gulf Breeze, who finished with a team score of 328.

"It was real tough out there," said girls assistant coach Jimmy Sanders. "The course was very windy. The girls shooting 328 is an excellent 18-hole score. They shot better than everyone except for Catholic's boys."

The Crusaders won the both title with a 322, followed by the Dolphins with a 338. West Florida shot a 367 to qualify for Tuesday's Region 1-A meet in Tallahassee.

Catholic's girls were second with a 371, followed by West Florida with a 337.

Kristen Dorsey, who verbally commited last week to play golf at Kansas State, shot a 78. Sara Hicks shot an 83, followed by Courtney Trevino (91) and Angela Whidby (99).

Grant McCormick finished tied for fifth overall with his score of 83. Jordan Mitchell shot an 84, followed by Patrick Dorsey (85), T.J. Jordan (86) and Cory Lawson (91).
