GB man killed on 98
FROM STAFF REPORTS Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

A Gulf Breeze man was killed last Wednesday night after walking into traffic on U.S. 98, a report from Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said. The man was hit by one vehicle and run over by three others in front of the Taco Bell in Navarre.

According to the report, Christian Anthony Rapp, 43, walked into the westbound traffic lane of Highway 98 just before 10 p.m. on Oct. 10. An SUV traveling west on 98 swerved to avoid Rapp but struck the pedestrian, pulled into the median and side swiped a traffic control device. A minivan, a car and another SUV then struck Rapp, who was still lying in the road after the first collision.

All four vehicles pulled into the median and waited to speak to police.

Rapp was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the medical examiner at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

No other injuries were reported and state troopers said none of the drivers were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Steven Preston said no charges have been filed against the drivers at this time, but that the investigation is still ongoing.

Investigators are awaiting lab results to determine if the pedestrian was intoxicated.

"They always do an analysis to see if alcohol was involved," said FHP Lt. Ronald Castleberry.

Castleberry said toxicology reports are usually available 20 or 30 days after the incident.

Rapp was the owner of Christian Rapp Plumbing Services in Gulf Breeze.
