GBHS wins on Senior Night

Photo courtesy of Athletes Feats Photography Single solitary senior Ali Venezia was honored before GBHS' volleyball match Thursday against Milton. The team's lone senior is the daughter of Janine and Tony Venezia.
The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin volleyball team overcame 24 passing errors to beat Milton 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 in a District 1-4A matchup Thursday on Senior Night in Gulf Breeze. Ali Venezia, the team's only senior was honored before the match.

Celia Eddy led Gulf Breeze (9-4, 7-1 as of press time) with 16 kills. She also had seven aces. Jasmine Crowell had six kills, while Lacie Brothers and Brittany Wheeler had five each. Tristan Powers had 30 assists.

Deannette Zuniga had 21 digs, while Brothers had seven, Powers six and Lauren Alverson and Alison Milam five each.

Lady Dolphins 25-25-25,

West Florida 8-14-19

Gulf Breeze used a different starting lineup than usual and didn't miss a beat against the winless (in district play) West Florida team Oct. 3 in Pensacola.

Eddy had 10 kills and four aces, while Alverson had seven kills and four aces.

Robyn Davidson had five aces, while Zuniga had 13 digs and Milam seven. Powers had 20 assists.

Fort Walton Beach

25-25-25,

Lady Dolphins 13-7-17

Thirty four passing errors was too much to overcome as the Lady Dolphins lost at Fort Walton Beach Oct. 1.

Eddy had eight kills in the loss, while the rest of the team combined for nine kills. Eddy also had four blocks, while Tobie Bass had five blocks. Zuniga had 13 digs, while Powers had seven and seven assists.

JV wrapup

Kelly Hayes had nine points on serve, including six aces, while Cheyenne Chapman and Lindsey Hawthorne both had six points in a two game win over West Florida Oct. 3.

The junior varsity team lost to Milton in three games and to Fort Walton in two games. Further information was unavailable at press time.

Ninth grade wrapup

Morgan Bass had 10 points on serve, while Ashley Scott had eight and Caroline Waghalter seven as the GBHS ninth graders beat Milton in two games. Katie Stanhagen had nine points and Sallie Papajohn six in their two-game win over West Florida Oct. 3.

Gulf Breeze played at Navarre Tuesday (after the News' deadline) with the top seed in the District 1-4A Tournament at stake.
