Dolphin golfers win three matches in four day span
The Dolphins opened play with a win over Navarre and Catholic Oct. 1 at The Club at Hidden Creek. The Dolphins finished with a 164, the team's lowest score for the season, followed by Navarre (173) and Catholic (196). Freshman Evan Smith was the match's low medalist, shooting a 38. Smith parred six of the nine holes and birdied the sixth hole after sticking his approach shot to three feet. Grant McCormick shot a 40 after losing three balls in the water. T.J. Jordan made multiple long putts on his way to a 41, while freshman Tyler Wright made a great save on the ninth hole for a 45. Gulf Breeze faced Navarre the following day at Tiger Point West. Senior Cory Lawson, who played in the number-one position, shot 40. Junior John Foryt was withdrawn due to a shoulder problem. The remaining players, freshmen Wright, Patrick Dorsey and Smith, shot 38, 41 and 43, respectively. Wright was the low medalist of the match. Gulf Breeze, with Lawson and the freshman trio, won a three-team match Thursday against Washington and PHS. Lawson birdied the fourth hole, a 509-yard par 5, with a 20-foot putt. His second birdie was seven, a 294-yard par four, following a 290-yard drive. Lawson parred three other holes to score 41. Dorsey also shot a 41 after parring four holes and making a birdie on seven. Smith parred three holes, shooting a 44, while Wright parred six and seven to finish with a 46. The Dolphins' final match of the season was Wednesday against West Florida at Scenic Hills. Girls wrapup The Lady Dolphins won a dual match with Catholic on Oct. 2 at Osceola and beat Niceville for the fourth straight time in a five team meet Thursday at Tiger Point West. Niceville is the only team to defeat Gulf Breeze this season. Against Catholic, Kristen Dorsey parred six of nine holes and birdied the fifth hole to finish with a 37. Hicks parred seven of her nine holes to finish with a 39, while Ashleigh Ryals parred three holes and birdied the second hole to finish with a 41. Courtney Trevino parred the sixth and eighth holes on her way to a 46. Sami Schachner parred the ninth hole. Gulf Breeze won Thursday-s five-team meet with a 163. Niceville and Pace were tied for second (175), while Fort Walton was fourth (190) and Choctaw fifth (191). Dorsey parred five holes and birdied the second, fourth and eighth holes to led GBHS with a 35. Hicks parred five holes to finish with a 41, while Ryals parred four holes and birdied the fourth to shoot 42. Trevino parred the third hole to finish with a 45, while Angela Whidby shot a 48, parring the seventh hole. The girls wrapped up the regular season Tuesday at Stonebrook before 'hosting' the district tournament Monday at Perdido Bay.
