GBSA 4-4 on Homecoming
Blue Midgets, Juniors honor former teammate with wins over Brent; TP Mini Mites stay unbeaten

The Gulf Breeze Sports Association's football program went 4-4 against Brent and Navarre Saturday on Homecoming at Dolphin Stadium.

The Homecoming festivities started Friday afternoon at the Dolphins' new field at Shoreline Park. The family of the late Blayne Richardson was on hand as a tree had been planted by the field in Blayne's memory.

Blayne Richardson was 13 years old when he died from an accidental self inflicted gunshot wound last Nov. 12. The GBSA Blue Midgets and Juniors, the teams that have players that played football with Blayne, both defeated Brent Saturday.

GBSA Juniors 8, Brent 6

Dane Locklin blocked a potential game-tying extra point with 1:01 left in the game and Andrew Jurnovoy recovered the onside kick to give the Dolphins the win over Brent.

Jurnovoy scored the Dolphins' lone touchdown on a 28-yard run with 8:02 left in the second quarter, while Taylor Busbee kicked the two-point extra point.

Blake Meredeth's fumble recovery on a Brent punt return set up the scoring drive, while Jordan Bennett's 13-yard pass to Josh Monserrate kept the drive alive.

The Dolphins turned the ball over on downs with 1:50 left in the game, setting up Brent's eight yard touchdown run.

Blue Midgets 32, Brent 21

Landon Cagle completed his first five passes, including a 33- yard touchdown pass to Randy Halpin on the game's third play as the Blue Midgets rolled over the Raiders.

T.J. Baughn followed with an eight yard touchdown run. Graham Kaplan's kick made it 16- 0 with 1:38 left in the first quarter.

David Crowhurst forced a fumble that was recovered by Nick Bookout. The turnover set up a 13-yard touchdown pass from Cagle to Ben Scarborough. Kaplan's kick with 4:49 left in the third quarter made it 24-0.

The Dolphins put the game away when Preston Sellers recovered a fumble and ran 39 yards for the score. Kaplan's kick with 7:20 left in the game made it 32-14. The Raiders added a score with 56.2 seconds left in the game. Sellers had 80 yards rushing and at least 17 tackles on defense.

Bookout had a fourth quarter interception for the Dolphins.

Navarre Maroon Midgets

6, Gulf Breeze White 0

An 89-yard touchdown catch with 1:45 left in the first half was all the Raiders needed as the Dolphins had six drives into the Navarre 'red zone' that netted no points.

The final chance for the Dolphins came after Chris Beck intercepted a Navarre pass and ran it back to the Navarre 14- yard line, but four plays later, the Raiders had it back on downs.

Brent Mites 39,

Gulf Breeze Blue 0

The Raiders scored on all five of its first half possessions to defeat Gulf Breeze.

Thomas Flynn made a touchdown-saving tackle in the first quarter, while Sam Covell's 12-yard catch from Dylan Blass was the Dolphins' biggest yardage gain of the game.

White Mites 30, Navarre Maroon 0 Five different Dolphins scored as they improved to 4-1.

Matthew deMahy scored on a 40-yard run in the first quarter before Adam Colston scored on a 70-yard run.

Daniel Harris opened the second quarter scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run, while Reed Gilliand's 18-yard run in the third quarter made it 24-0.

Parker Baynes rounded out the scoring with a five-yard run late in the third quarter.

Baynes, deMahy, Jace Amberson, Bradley Proctor and Jordan Edwards led the defense.

Tristan Covell had a tackle, a fumble recovery and three rushes for 15 yards in a loss to Brent. Nolan Remig had six tackles and completed a pair of passes, while Eric Czeck had three tackles.

White Mini Mites 21,

Navarre 0 Brent Mighty Mites 12,

TP Mini Mites 4-0

The Tiger Point Mini Mites, a first year program, improved to 4-0 with a 28-6 win over Cantonment Saturday.

The Mites lost 30-6 to Cantonment White to fall to 0-4 on the season. Tom Bixler had a 60-yard touchdown run and had 10 tackles. Brett Schoenwolf had four tackles, while Zach Pearcy had three tackles for losses. The offensive line continues to improve, led by Stuart Harrigill.

The midgets couldn't hold an early lead and lost 12-6. Xan Sarra scored on an eight-yard run in the first half to make it 6-0.
