This date in Dolphin History
GB wins nailbiters
BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News jason@gulfbreezenews.com

The 2007 Dolphins will look to win their fifth consecutive Homecoming game this week - and hope to not do it in nailbiting fashion like several Dolphin teams of the past.

The '77, '82 and '92 Dolphins all pulled out close wins on this week in Dolphin Sports History.

1972 - The Dolphins scored their first points of the season, but lost 28-6 to Century. Tony Barberi scored from two yards out late in the second quarter to tie the game at six, but the Blackcats were able to take advantage of a blocked punt and an interception to pull away.

1977 - Jody Brown's extra point late in the fourth quarter was the difference as the Dolphins beat W.S. Neal 13-12 in East Brewton. The game-tying touchdown - a 21- yard pass from Donnie Brown to David Davidson - was set up by a fumble recovery with 2:07 left.

1982 - Tommy Nash, who had 168 yards passing, kicked a 29-yard field with 11 seconds left to give the 2-3 Dolphins a 16-14 win over Escambia.

Spencer Lane scored on an 11- yard run with 4:12 left in the second quarter to pull the Dolphins within a point at 7-6. Nash completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Woody Johnston, followed by Craig Walker's extra point made it 13-7.

Gene Hurd and others made a fourth down same deep in Dolphin territory to seal the win.

1987 - The Dolphins improved to 2-2 on the season by scoring 20 second quarter points to beat Baker 35-14.

1992 - Jason Lombardo's 47- yard touchdown run with a minute left gave the Dolphins a 21-17 win at Quincy Shanks. Lombardo had 89 yards rushing on nine carries, while Drew O'Daniel had 73 yards rushing on nine carries and two scores.

2002 - Milton scored 34 in the first half to defeat the Dolphins 48-21.
