Girls golf wins FCA tourney again
Gulf Breeze won with a score of 330. Niceville was second (351), followed by Pace (358), Ft. Walton (368) and Catholic (370). Sarah Hicks led the Lady Dolphins with a 78, birding two holes and making par on eight others. Ashleigh Ryals shot an 80, parring 11 holes, while Kristen Dorsey shot an 84, birding two holes and parring seven. Angela Whidby made five pars to shoot an 88, while Courtney Trevino shot a 95 with three pars. Boys team takes eighth The GBHS boys golf team took eighth place in the 19-team FCA Tournament at A.C. Read Golf Club. Mosley High School of Panama City won the tournament with a 303, followed by Catholic (309) and Choctaw (315). Senior and team captain Grant McCormick led the Dolphins with an 81. He finished a difficult first nine with a 43, but he recovered well with a 38 on the second nine. McCormick birdied holes nine on Bayou (a par four) and three on Lakeview (a par three) and chipped in for a birdie on Lakeview's hole four, a 509-yard par five. He was also five for six on sand saves. Senior T.J. Jordan, who played with a sprained ankle after a misstep in an uneven area on Lakeview's hole 2, finished with an 83. He birdied hole nine on Lakeview and parred eight other holes. Senior Jordan Mitchell battled a back injury during his round to shoot a 95, birding the longest on the three A.C. Read courses - the 536-yard hole thrd hole on the Bayou course. Junior John Foryt finished with an 87, while freshman Patrick Dorsey shot a 91. GBHS girls beat Navarre Dorsey shot a one-over 37 in a dual meet with Navarre Sept. 26 at The Club at Hidden Creek. Gulf Breeze beat Navarre by 64 shots. Ryals birdied two holes and finished with a 38, while Hicks birdied one and finished with a 39. It's the second time this season that the three of them have broken 40 in the same nine-hole match.
