Wind resistant trees to be featured at Fall Field Day Sat. Oct. 6

The University of Florida Santa Rosa County Extension Staff and the Santa Rosa County Master Gardeners is hosting their Third Annual Fall Field Day on Saturday, October 6 from 8 a.m. to noon. The Field Day will be held at the Santa Rosa County Extension Office located at 6263 Dogwood Drive, Milton, FL.

This year's event features a "TREEmendous Giveaway." Trees will be given away to the first 200 people that register for a short class on proper planting and care. The available trees were chosen based on their wind resistance. Some available species include live oak, Southern magnolia, bald cypress and crape myrtle. Participants must provide a vehicle capable of transporting a 7 gallon, 5 foot tall tree. Trees must be picked up during the event. Classes will be offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. the day of the Field Day. Call 850 623 3868 to register for a class.

Participants are also invited to take a tour of the onsite gardens and find out what attracts birds to the landscape, how to grow vegetables in a small space, what ornamental grasses are all about and what tropicals grow best in Northwest Florida.
