'92 Dolphins upset No. 2 Catholic 16-15

The Gulf Breeze Dolphin football team hopes history will repeat itself on Friday as the 1992 Dolphins upset the secondranked Catholic Crusaders 16-15.

Damen King intercepted a Catholic pass with 1:04 left in the game to seal the win.

Drew O'Daniel scored on a 14-yard run in the first quarter, while Jason Lombardo added a 25-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Corey Kaplan kicked the extra point.

1972 - The Dolphins were shut out by Bonifay 33-0. The 0-3 Dolphins have yet to score a touchdown this season.

Gulf Breeze was driving, at the Blue Devil 22-yard line, when time expired.

1977 - The seventh-ranked Dolphins were upset 14-6 by Milton.

Tim Koontz's two-yard run with 2:42 left pulled Gulf Breeze within two (8-6), as the Panthers added a 54-yard touchdown pass to seal the win.

Current Milton athletic director Murray Rutledge picked off a Dolphin pass in the final minute. He also had 60-yard touchdown pass called back on a penalty in the second quarter.

1982 - The Dolphins lost to Bay 13-8.

1987 - The Dolphins were idle this week, but the younger Dolphins went 1-2 in Pop Warner action this week. The Mighty Mites lost to Salvation Army 28-0, while the Pee Wees defeated Salvation Army 26-0. The Midgets lost to Myrtle Grove 15-0.

1992 - The Lady Dolphin volleyball team fell to 5-5 on the season after a 15-10, 17-15 loss to Pace. They entered play this week on a 15-2, 15-3 home win over PHS.

1997 - Andy Rountree's 21-yard pass to David Miller, followed by Ian Reeder's extra point, were the difference in the Dolphins' 14-13 win over Northview.

Chris Fresquez's tackle with 1:07 left sealed the win for the Dolphins (4-1), who got a 66- yard touchdown run by Tyler Haney early in the game.

Haney had 72 yards rushing, while Jason McKie had 88 yards on 18 carries.

The Lady Dolphin cross country team took seventh in the Garnet Division of the Florida State 5K.

Behind seven digs from Alicia Elowe, seven kills from Michael Ann Riley and 14 points on serve by Angela Fowler, the Lady Dolphin volleyball team outlasted Central 15-4, 1-15, 15-12.

The U12 Bayside Wolves won a pair of games over the weekend at the Pensacola Soccer Complex. They defeated PUSA United 2-1 and Gulfport 4-0.

David Phillips had two goals, while Montie Lewing, Cullen Stanley, Tyler Bowden and Chase Griffin all had one goal each.

Shelby Martin won the 50 free (30.86) and the 100 breast (1:31.71) in an 84-77 loss to Pace, while Derek Gordon won the 100 free (53.59) and the 100 breast (1:06.75) in a 72-60 win over Pace at Hunter Pool.

2002 - The Dolphins committed four turnovers in a 41-0 loss to Crestview.

Buddy Burks led the Dolphins inside the Bulldog five-yard line, but was intercepted in the final minute.

The Lady Dolphin volleyball team, ranked fourth in the state, improved to 10-1 on the season after a 15-9, 15-7 win over Woodham.

Kalyn Hundley had six kills, four aces and three blocks, Corie Skislak had four kills, Cameron Pyle had four assists, while Chelsey Adams had three digs.

The boys swim team took second, while the girls were fourth in a meet at Washington High School.

Jack Holway, Andy Atzhorn, Kyle Cormier and Matt Skinner all won events for the Dolphins.

Chryssie Banfell scored the lone goal for the U-15 PFC Lady Wolves against Tallahassee United's U-16 team.
