Tiger Point 2-1 in Gulf Breeze News Bowl
The Tiger Point Mini Mites and Midgets both shut out their Gulf Breeze White counterparts to win the inaugural cowbell, while the GBSA White Mites won an overtime thriller, 6-0, over the Tigers. Tiger Point Mini Mites 26, Gulf Breeze 0 Nicky Myers ran for 115 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Tigers (2-0) scored on four of its five possessions to beat the Dolphins. Myers scored on a 49-yard run on the third play of the game. Nico Ynostrosa's extra point made it 7-0 with 5:46 left in the first quarter. Tyler Dittmer had an 11-yard gain before the Dolphins (1-3) had to punt. It was the biggest gain of the first half of the Dolphins, who ended the first half with minus-10 yards of total offense.
The PAT failed, leaving the score 13-0. Dustin Rogers and Trevor Robinson combined on a sack to force a Gulf Breeze punt. But the Tigers couldn't convert as a diving interception by Steele Chambers ended the first half. Rogers recovered a Dolphin fumble on the opening play of the second half. Seven plays later, Myers scored from 10 yards out. The PAT failed, making the score 19-0 with 2:49 left in the third quarter. A sack on fourth down led to another seven-play scoring drive for the Tigers, with Ynostrosa scoring from 25- yards out. Andrew Dorsey scored the extra point. Sean Toellner, Rogers, Tristan Diamond led the Tiger defense, while Chambers was the standout on defense for the Dolphins. Gulf Breeze White Mites 6, Tiger Point 0 (OT) Jace Amberson's 10-yard pass to Matthew deMahy on the Dolphins' first play in overtime was the difference as they won a defensive battle against the Tigers (0-3). The Tigers got a fourth down conversion run from Tom Bixler before Parker Baynes recovered a fumble three plays later. Both teams failed to get a first down on their next series before deMahy picked up a first down for the Dolphins (3-1) on an 11-yard run. But defense would continue to win out as the half ended with both teams combining for 11 yards of total offense. Baynes had a 28-yard gain on their final series of the first half, but it was called back on the facemask penalty. Gulf Breeze went three and out to start the second half. Bixler gave the Tigers a first down on their opening second half possession, but deMahy would recover a Tiger fumble three plays later. Gulf Breeze then went on a six minute drive - getting a fourth down conversion run from Amberson and a third down conversion run from deMahy - before turning it over on downs. A 30-yard run by Bixler was called back on a penalty as the Tigers were forced to punt four plays later. A Travis Parkins tackle on fourth down would send the game into overtime. Gulf Breeze won the coin toss and elected to play defense in overtime. The Dolphins would stop the Tigers on fourth down as Adam Colston recovered a fumble forced by a sack from deMahy. Bradley Proctor led the Dolphin defense, while Baynes, Riley Nolan and Colston had multiple tackles. Tiger Point Midgets 30, Gulf Breeze 0 The Tigers (2-1) held the Dolphins (2-2) to minus-10 yards of total offense in the first half, while scoring 24 points as they went on to shut out the smaller Dolphin squad. It was Dolphins making a statement early as Matt Ryan recovered a fumble that was forced by Gordon Benson. Gulf Breeze couldn't advance the ball as sacks by Blake Myers, Gray Dorsey and Nick Morgan forced a Dolphin punt. Gulf Breeze would get the ball back as the Tigers fumbled the punt, but three plays later, Chad Wise intercepted a Dolphin pass and ran 30 yards for the touchdown. Chandler Foxworth's two-point kick made it 8-0 with 3:02 left in the first quarter. The Tigers would recover the ensuing kickoff before C.J. Nelson scored the first of his two touchdowns on a six-yard run. Foxworth's kick with no time left in the first quarter made it 16-0. Nelson led the Tigers with 69 yards rushing on seven carries. Gulf Breeze went three and out again, leading to a sevenplay scoring drive, capped off by a nine-yard touchdown run by Nelson. Foxworth's kick with 3:02 left in the second quarter made it 24-0. Xan Sarra intercepted a Dolphin pass on fourth down, but Andy Creech and Garner Curington combined on a sack for Gulf Breeze to end the first half. Ryan recovered a Tiger fumble inside their own 15-yard run, but the Dolphins would turn it back over on downs five plays later. Michael Hawkins gave Gulf Breeze its first first down of the game on a 38-yard run. The Tigers would go on an 11-play scoring drive, with Mitchell Robbins scoring from two-yards out. Nelson kept the drive alive with a fourth down conversion run. Hawkins had 47 yards rushing for Gulf Breeze, while Creech, William Beck and Auston Fillinger led the Dolphin defense with multiple tackles. Myrtle Grove Juniors 32, Gulf Breeze 20 Myrtle Grove pulled away in the second half as Gulf Breeze fell to 2-2 on the season. Mitchell deKozan broke several tackles on his way to a 20-yard touchdown run before Jordan Bennett threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Josh Monserrate. Bennett added a one-yard touchdown run in the final minute. Taylor Busbee added a twopoint kick after deKozan's touchdown. Weston Demotts had several tackles on defense, while Blake Meredeth recovered an onside kick. deKozan and Mason Barnes broke up passes in the loss. Gulf Breeze Blue Midgets 14, Myrtle Grove 6 The Dolphin defense pitched a shutout until the final two minutes and held the Gators to only three first downs in a win Saturday in Pensacola. Landon Cagle, after completing a 35-yard pass to Cooper Jones, threw a 28-yard pass to T.J. Baughn. Taylor Baynes' kick making the score 8-0. A sack by David Crowhurst set up a 70-yard touchdown run by Adam Foley. Preston Sellers added close to 100 yards rushing in the win for the Dolphins (3-1). Randy Halpin and Baughn also intercepted passes for Gulf Breeze. Myrtle Grove Mites 19, Gulf Breeze Blue 6 Sam Covell's kickoff return for a touchdown late in the first half pulled the Dolphins (1-3) within a point before the Gators scored 12 unanswered in the second half. Gulf Breeze Blue Mini Mites 12, Myrtle Grove 6 George Scifo had 119 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Tristan Covell had 52 yards rushing and a 35-yard touchdown as the Blue Mini Mites evened its record to 2-2 Saturday. Covell also had seven tackles, while Bailey Wilson had six, Eric Czeck four, Nolan Remig and Gavin Mayes three each and Bo Fabbro two tackles and a fumble recovery.
