Ready for a new year
A large group of Gulf Breeze High School GBHS Students gather for the Sept. 13 meeting of the school's Junior optimist club. Gulf Breeze High School's Junior Optimist Club, the Octagon Club, begins this school year with approximately 81 members and a dynamic slate of officers and sponsors including: President Eleni Weisnicht; Vice President Lindsay Bowman; Secretary Chloe Diehl and Naomi Hurd. Anna Reynolds is social chairman and Brandon Timmons is club historian. The Octagon Club meets bi monthly, at 7 a.m. with sponsors Andrea Faklis, Stephanie Duffy, Margaret Whibbs and Margie Timmons. At their Sept. 13 meeting, President, Eleni Weisnicht, discussed The Sarah Brown Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament, Saturday, Sept. 15, at Soldiers Creek Golf Course, Elberta, Ala. In honor of GBHS sophomore Sarah Brown, Octagon Club member and victim of a fatal auto accident last February, the Club established a scholarship fund. Proceeds from Saturday's Golf Tournament contributed to two $1,000 scholarships for Octagon Club seniors. The Octagon Club will continue its campus beautification project, begun last year, and sponsor two dances in November and December. The interest, energy and enthusiasm apparent at Thursday's early morning meeting promised an exciting and productive year for the Gulf Breeze Junior Optimists.
