Lady Dolphins stunned at Pine Forest
BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News jason@gulfbreezenews.com

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Coaches Waynn Sellers and Melissa Baxley try to rally the troops against Pine Forest.
A scrappy Pine Forest team gave Gulf Breeze all they wanted last year, winning a game off the Lady Dolphins.

This year, 'all they wanted' was too much, as the Lady Eagles upset Gulf Breeze 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23 Sept. 12.

Pine Forest (5-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first game. Gulf Breeze (3-2) got four straight serves from Tobie Bass to take a 15-13 lead before Pine Forest scored 12 of the last 17 points.

Aserving errors, one of 12 by GBHS in the match, gave Pine Forest an early lead, but a service error from the Lady Eagles tied the game.

An ace from Tristan Powers, one of her seven in the match gave GBHS a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

A pair of Pine Forest aces helped the Lady Eagles take a 5-1 lead in game three. Gulf Breeze would tie it at 9 after one of Lacie Brothers' nine kills, but GBHS couldn't get the lead as Pine Forest outscored the Lady Dolphins 16- 10 the rest of the way.

Two more aces closed out the third game for Pine Forest, who took a 4-1 lead early in game four.

The Lady Eagles stretched its lead to six before 10 straight serves from Powers gave the Lady Dolphins a 20-15 lead.

But Gulf Breeze wouldn't score a point on serve the rest of the game as Pine Forest went on a 10-3 run to end the game.

Gulf Breeze was plagued by 41 hitting errors and 23 passing errors.

Bass and Celia Eddy both had seven kills, while Powers had 20 assists. Eddy also had eight blocks, while Bass had three and four digs.

Alison Milam had eight digs, while Lauren Alverson had five.
