Lady Dolphins lose 3-0 to Catholic
The Lady Dolphins (2-1) played without outside hitter Lacie Brothers, who sustained a concussion in GBHS' five-game win over Washington. She should play this week against West Florida Tech and Pine Forest. A Tristan Powers serve made it 3-1 before Catholic (2-0) scored 10 of the next 12 to take an 11-5 lead. Gulf Breeze got no closer than five in that game. A kill from Tobie Bass, who had six in the match, made it 6- 4 in game two before Catholic erupted again, scoring 16 of the next 18 for a 20-8 lead. Gulf Breeze used serving from Bass and Jasmine Crowell to get within five before Catholic closed out game two. Gulf Breeze led 12-8 in game three and led as late as 17-15. But Catholic would force a sideout and scored four straight serves to take the lead for good.
Celia Eddy had 10 kills and four blocks, while Crowell had four kills. Alison Milam led the defense with six digs, while Powers had five digs and 13 assists.
Kylie Conner and Kelly Hayes both scored 11 points on serve to win a tight match with Catholic.
Ashley Scott scored seven points, while Katie Stanhagen had five as the ninth graders eked out a two-game win with Catholic. Gulf Breeze had little trouble rolling to a non-district win Sept. 5 in Pensacola.
Powers had 17 assists and 11 aces on serve, while Eddy had eight kills and 10 aces on serve. Bass had five kills, while Crowell had five aces.
Cheyenne Chapman had 14 points on serve and 10 aces, while Conner had six kills. Casey Crenshaw had five points and five kills, while Hayes had 13 assists. |
