FROM STAFF REPORTS Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

A Kansas City couple celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on Navarre Beach had their vacation interrupted by tragedy last weekend. According to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report, deputies were dispatched to the 8500 block of Gulf Boulevard on Navarre Beach to investigate a possible drowning at 1 a.m. on Sept. 9.

When they arrived, the report said deputies found an unidentified woman waving her arms and a man lying on the beach next to her. The woman told deputies she found her husband "lifeless in the water and pulled him to shore," the report said. The man, 51-year-old William James True of Kansas City, Kan., was found unconscious. Paramedics were unable to find a pulse and began administering CPR.

According to the report, paramedics administered CPR and other life saving attempts for 40 minutes with no results. True was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, Sept. 10 and results were not available as of press time.
